Communion-The Lords Table
Water
Baptism and Communion are the churches two ordinances. Baptism is observed at the beginning of the
Christian life, and communion is observed throughout the Christian life.
Titles Given to this Ordinance:
The Lord’s Supper 1 Corinthians 11:20
The Lord’s Table 1 Corinthians 10:21
The Communion 1 Corinthians 10:16
The Eucharist, which means “thanksgiving” and “the
Sacrament”
Jesus instituted this: “Do this in remembrance
of me.” The
early church practiced it daily.
Communion is an ordinance instituted by Christ to commemorate His death
until He comes at the second coming.

Symbols: The Bread and the Wine
The Bread: represents
Jesus’ body broken for us. It fulfills the
Passover Lamb, and all other sacrificial bodies of animals under the Old
Testament. It also symbolizes the
Church, the body of Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:16-17, 1 Corinthians
12:12-27, 1 Corinthians 11:28-29, Luke 22:17-20, Matthew 26:26, John 6:48-56
The
Wine: represents the precious blood
of Jesus that introduced and manifested the New testament/ New Covenant. His blood was shed for remission of sins and
to manifest spiritual life for spiritually dead man. 1

The Communion symbolizes:
1. The
death of Christ for our sins and sicknesses.

2. Personal

3. Union

a partnership, fellowship, associate. Covenant- adoption, we take his name and
all his authority and rights and privileges.
5. Fellowship-
2 Corinthians 13:14
The Communion emblems used are not
literally turned into the real blood and body of Christ as some teach.
Receiving
Communion is a celebration of our covenant with God. Hebrews
8:6
A
better covenant established upon better promises. 2 Corinthians
